The Managers Table

“It’s been a busy pre-season for the club, after such a tragic start to the summer with the loss of one of our players Sam Alger early plans were put on hold in respect of Sam and the effect it had within the club losing such a smashing lad. The club has done all it can to support Sam’s family and our players, we have retired squad number 33 and the player of the season trophy will now carry his name. We are raising money for his family and a planned fund raiser next year here in Doha will generate great support from our community”.

“We changed the structure of the club this season to add stability and experience, a club secretary was brought in to promote the intention of making the club more robust at management levels. After going through the process of filtering the right man for the job we were delighted to get Derek Lyon on board. Derek is a dynamic and his approach to football will only bring the club forward, this was the start of many coups this season. Simon Pratt joined the club, bringing a wealth of coaching experience to add to the already talented group here at the club. Roy Gadsby, Mikey Brady and Darren Moon entering their third season with the club and the return of Kennie Gammie cements a truly superb coaching team. I cannot fail to mention our kitman Dave Blakeborough he continues to maintain the best of kit for the lads and still have time to keep the lads spirits high with his great personality and approach to the game”.

“I try to rejuvenate a squad every season, I believe by strengthening a club with quality it serves purpose to the clubs existing players and defines the vision for the club to progress every season. The values we maintain at this club keep us moving forward, and more importantly moving forward together; getting a player of the required quality is one task having the player carry the values and passion to adapt to the way this club operates is another. We continued with the coups adding GAA all-star goalkeeper Paul Durcan to the squad, I spoke with Paul last year and invited him down to training explained the vision and that was that he’s a huge lad and will bolster the goalkeeping department this season. Winger Jamie Hughes returns to the club, I found out he was returning to Doha after a two year spell in China so getting him back in and fit is like a getting a new signing. The community element to the club leads us to attract the best players from other clubs in the league, acquiring the likes of talented Spanish footballers Hector Garcia and Jose Ignacio further additions from Al Bidda Attackong midfielders Mourad Benzarmid Nour Baoussar and defender Housam Reda three Moroccan players with an abundance of talent and proven in this league will add depth and quality to the super squad we already have here at The Pearl FC”.

“I’d like to personally thank our fantastic sponsors, Etihad, PWS, Olympic Sports, Grand Hyatt, Pro Stats and Oasis cars these are the support behind the scenes which gives Derek and the club a foundation to improve the club. This support has fueled support from Motif8 as our new kit supplier giving the club and it’s squad the best of kit for the 2016/17 season. The foundations are solid with the staff I have supporting me, I have a great assistant in Stevie Gough a super Captain in Niall Keogh with a nation of talent within the squad pushing the club forward. I have no doubt for the new season this club, this squad will be a different force as we continue to progress as a footballing family and a unit. With talent combined with the teamwork and the passion to win we will start stronger than ever when the first game comes our way in October”.
